About Bast

Bast Capital is a hybrid early-stage investment & operating firm. Based out of Vancouver, BC Bast has active operations all over North America. Locations of its operations include Baltimore, Sacramento, San Diego and Honolulu to name a few. It currently has 9 portfolio companies that traverse a diverse array of industries including manufacturing, CPG, agriculture, construction and technology. These early stage businesses account for more than $7.5m of capital raised, with $9M of revenue in 2019, 60+ employees and one M&A transaction valued at $20m.

Ryan Mason

Ryan started his career with 6 years in public practice accounting at MNP, where he received his CA. Ryan went on to earn the CFA designation also. Ryan is a co-founder and chief investment officer for Bast Capital.

Mitch Barnard

Mitch Barnard, a founder of Bast, began his career as a lawyer at a leading international tax planning firm. Prior to that, he attended law school at the University of Alberta, where he received first class standing and dean’s list honors.

At Bast, Mitch spends the majority of his time sourcing and structuring inbound and outbound investments, analyzing opportunities, sitting on the Board of numerous portfolio companies, and directly overseeing the agriculture and construction portfolio.

In his spare time Mitch mostly focuses on reading and Olympic weightlifting. He reads a book a week and is currently one of the leading Olympic weightlifters in Canada in the 89kg class, and a likely selection for the Pan American Games in 2020.

Thomas Walker

Thomas received his BA from UBC and a JD from the U of A. Thomas started his law career articling with Fasken Martineau, after being called to the BC bar Thomas left the law to pursue his entrepreneurial career. Thomas is a co-founder and head of marketing and culture for Bast Capital. His early successes are in building outstanding consumer beverage brands (Metta and Nyte).

Thomas is passionate about health, fitness and animal welfare. In his spare time he is either in the gym, on the beach or hiking with his dog Koda.
